Miles Rutherford & Co made four changes to the starting XI that beat Herne Bay in the FA Trophy last time out. Kieran Magee lined up at No1 with Ryan Davidson, skipper Rob Hutchings, Emmett Dunn and Ben Pashley in defence. Joe Moore featured in midfield alongside Lloyd Rowlatt, Joe Clarke, Mo Jammeh and Ethan Prichard with Isaac Bello up top.
Hutchings picked Rowlatt in the first minute but he headed wide before Jammeh got Bello away on a run at goal.
A Horsham break then led to a poor Ola Ogunwamide delivery and Dunn was in effectively on Charlie Hester-Cook.
Next, Clarke, Jammeh and Hutchings combined for a Moore pass that was cut out.
Dickson headed over a precise cross from Ogunwamide and Rowlatt and Prichard hooked up looking for Jammeh.
Rowlatt got fouled and Prichard blasted the free kick well over.
Hester-Cook and Daniel Ajakaiye were involved as a final shot got blocked and another Horsham move petered out.
Dunn struck a long ball to Bello but the visitors regained possession and then Prichard tried his luck with a long-ranger to beat House but it swerved off target.
Bello received some treatment for an injury but carried on before the Hornets were caught offside down the right-hand flank.
Pashley played a decent ball to outlet Hutchings who cut inside and forced a nice save out of House.
Moore, Jammeh and Dunn were all involved in a slick move and a cross from which Rowlatt won a corner.
Hutchings and Jammeh then forged a real chance that was hit wide of the mark on the half hour.
And House was attuned to the danger posed by Rowlatt when he won control and delivered but the Horsham No1 claimed.
The game’s first yellow card got given to Hammond for a foul on Moore.
Next, Bello launched a long throw and the ball after Moore’s press went out for what looked like a corner but a goal kick was unusually awarded.
Hutchings was fouled in the 41st minute for a free kick which got steered out and Rowlatt took the corner kick.
On the stroke of half time Jammeh broke up a Hornets’ attack; Jack Strange guided a Prichard cross back to his keeper; and House held Prichard’s shot comfortably enough.
Ajakaiye hit one wide five minutes in and Davidson cleared an Ogunwamide delivery.
A poor cross from Joel Daly led to Bello turning the ball out for a corner kick.
Hammond took this and it sailed straight through.
Dickson jinked past a couple of challenges and a pass from Hammond to Ogunwamide was a bit too strong.
The same Horsham player then almost found Ajakaiye and Rowlatt and Bello were involved in a move that led to shot which House saved.
On 57 Rowlatt, Bello and one of the Joes were at it again for a blocked effort before a twisting and turning Rowlatt got fouled for a set piece.
Prichard sent a deep corner towards Davidson which came to nothing before Jimmy Wild and Billie Clark replaced Bello and Prichard in the 63rd minute.
Hornets sub Lucas Rodrigues tried to break through and then a super ball split the Chi back four and Magee was forced to upend Dickson.
Hammond placed the resulting spot kick beyond Magee and into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Horsham might have capitalised on a Pashley mistake but Joe Turner lifted way over the bar.
House was called on to save at the other end and a pass from Pashley tried to get Hutchings in.
And then Dickson doubled the visitors’ lead from some distance on 77.
Hutchings won Chi a corner which got turned out for another on the other side.
Magee made a fine stop to deny Turner and then claimed Hester-Cook’s header from Harding’s kick.
House was given a straight red card for a tackle on Wild in the 86th minute and Wild struck the resulting set piece into the wall.
The referee indicated seven minutes of time added on and Clark wasn’t far away with a hit.
Olly Munt’s cross was subsequently tipped out for a corner as Chi probed and Clark fired a second shot off target.
After four home games on the spin Chichester face Cray Valley PM away next on Saturday 12th October (Kick Off 3pm).
